FOODĒ's First Year on Earth

What this ISN’T…

This is a blog about our first year in business.  We went through a lot to get to the point where we finally opened our doors, but we won’t discuss that here.  We won’t talk about our living room full of consomme pots, a Southdown sheep and black candelabras.  We won’t mention the 600-pound fridge we stole from a barber in Decatur; the crack addict who paid for her fix while we listened to gospel hymns; the mover named Jo-Jo who demolished our driveway or the days I quit job number three, job number two and then finally, job number one.  We won’t even go into the screaming matches; the laughing fits; the stress headaches or the great, great loss of Helen, Jim and Robert E.  You won’t hear about the pickup truck in the ditch; the midnight road trips; the incredible self-doubt; the cancer; lying to our friends or the one-shoed Beatles fan who we were certain planned to kill us.  We’ll skip the story of the zit that grew for four full months; the thousands we spent; the thousands we saved or the unknown tally of what we wasted.  We won’t tell you how we brushed off the fears of our families and then became overwhelmed by fears of our own.  We’ll leave out the bragging; the bravery; the puffy-chested pride and certainly the full-fliedged fear.  There will be no mention of the nightmares; the rainbows; or being bolstered by the wisdom of a well-placed bumper sticker.  You’ll see none of that here.  Those days have past.  What has value, what can serve us in the future, we’ll keep.  The rest will just fade away.  And what you’ll read here, ALL you’ll read here, is the true beginning.  Every day of the first year we’ll tell you a little bit about what happened.  See you tomorrow…

Are you absolutely sure you can’t spare a moment to tell us about the one shoe beatles fan, the crack addict or the stolen fridge? LOL

I’m so excited that you’re opening up shop downtown! I really feel after moving here 2 years ago that this is the best kept secret in VA. Welcome!

Fredericksburg is going to love you and you are going to love it! I don’t even know who you are but my heart is open to you and your business and I just want you to know that this will soon feel like “home” for you. Good luck! Praying for huge success!

    Hi girls
As I shared with you two last August 6 2010 when you open a business and take in the public you have taken on several full time jobs all at once. I gave myself to the public in 1977 and they still own me. I decided I wanted to go up that ladder in life one step at a time, well I have but it has cost me the things you are now starting to miss. The reward will be well worth it as accomplishment/achievement today comes far apart and I see you two are on the way there.

Can’t wait to swing through VA to check y’all out. I won’t give away your location to the barber in Decatur! Sydney says hi to fellow Foodes. She’s 10 and looking for a job.

If you haven’t yet tried FOODE, you are missing OUT. The food is as amazing as it is fresh (and it’s super fresh). We all have our local haunts, but try FOODE one night instead, and I guarantee you will return.

Everyone in the F’burg area should try Foode! It’s really good. Sadly my girlfriend and I wanted to go yesterday but you still had power problems. Best of luck to you all.

So great to see y’all last week. The place is charming and comfortable. The food is fantastic – highest praise from my budding 11 year old foode! Congratulations! Next time we’ll visit more. Namaste

Gloria and I were totally impressed, with the food, the service and the very laid back atomosphere. We want to be like Joy and Beth when we grow up. Congratulations and the very bestEST of luck with your FOODE venture.

Trust me you will get tired of seeing us…….!

  13. I have several favorite things I like about your place, which I’ve mentioned in other posts, but one of the things I love is the ordering and paying up front system. This allows me to just enjoy my meal and not be bothered by worrying about anything but that. It’s very convenient and I’ve struck up some nice conversations while waiting (not very long) in that line. The wait also lets me really arrive into the space; that is appreciated.

Also, I like that your menu is not overwhelming; I overwhelm easily and having one page of selections to choose from makes me very happy. And you ALWAYS have something that jumps off the page and latches onto my anxious taste buds. The Fried Thai Rice was so lovely the other day. Can’t wait to visit again . . . .
